GRANT AWARD

North Oregon Coast Symphony
Timpani Project

. The orchestra has been borrowing two antique timpani from the music program in the Neahkahnie School District. The timpanis didn't have pedals to adjust pitch and the percussionist had to do it manually with a crescent wrench. The pitch of the timpani needed to be adjusted for each piece the orchestra plyaed, and sometimes while the piece was in progress. Many times the whole orchestra and audience had to wait between selections during a concert while the percussionist worked on the drums with his hand tools.

Although the orchestra has been collecting money earmarked for timpanis, the grant of $1,800 to the North Oregon Coast Symphony allowed the orchestra to buy two Yamaa reinforced timpani to use in its performances on the North Coast
