MUSIC ON THE FLAVEL HOUSE GROUNDS

The grant awarded assisted the Clatsop County Historical Society to add music to their second annual Victorian Fun and Games event. Music by Dave Drury, Bob Joiner, and the Astoria High School Band provided period appropriate music that enlivened the event.
The Society reported that the event drew an additional 14% more people than the first year of the event, with the an audience of approximately 275, the majority being children. The music strengthened the robust calendar of events that included a number of booths demonstrating various crafts of from the 1800's such as rug-hooking, spinning, and rope making. There was collaboration with local craft guilds and the Maritime Museum, with over 30 volunteers assisting during the event..
There were many positive comments about the music and how lively it made the grounds, and leaders of the event were told by several visitors that they came because they heard the music from a few blocks away and were curious about what was going on.
