Through The Eyes Of A Child

My Dog & The Skate Park
- Brandon (6 yrs old)
Brandon's house burned down and he lost his dog in the fire shortly after the 'Through The Eyes of a Child' exhibit. His mother called from the motel the same day as the fire to ask if the school could give Brandon a copy of this picture.

What do children really see? Warrenton Grade School was given a grant of $750 for a photography project with kindergarten students. Each student was given a disposable 35mm camera and lessons on photography. Then they were asked to take pictures of what was important to them in their world.

Students chose a picture that they liked the best and wrote about that picture. Then the teachers worked with each child to select one that for what the children believed was artistic content.. Students then discussed the pictures with each other, including what they liked best and why they liked them.

Every effort was made to ensure that the pictures taken would be taken through the children's eyes and perspective. The results are an incredible glimpse of their world in a way adults sometimes are not able to see.

The projects culminated in an exhibit of their work with an artist reception. The excitement of the children at the opportunity to explain their work to the over 300 people attending the reception can't be put into words.
