Shaping Community Partnerships Through The Arts

The Clatsop County Women's Resource Center and Richard Rowland and the participants firing in the Anagama Dragon Kiln collaborated to shape a community partnership through the arts. The Clatsop County Cultural Coalition contributed money to help provide a high quality brochure to commemorate the successful Soup Bowl Project, where the volunteers of the Resource Center provide home made soup in the one-of-a-kind bowls created by Richard and his students and friends.

Pat Burness: "What an honor it is to work here, play here and experience friendship in a place that is so rich and caring. However, as with most places, this place has its dark spaces where violence occurs between people who at one time claimed to love one another, where children are mistreated and witness abuse on a daily basis, but saddest of all, a place where men, women and children are sexually abused, a violation that can forever damage the soul.

But thankfully this is a Place where men and women with skilled hands and a love of pottery willingly offer to share their talents; this is a Place where those who love to nurture through cookihng offer soup, some of them passing down cherished family recipes; and this is a Place where others come in the community to fill their beautifully handcrafted bowls with homemade soup so that we at the Women's Resource Center can be the spoon that feeds the sould of those who have been hurt...."
