This project will implement a mul-faceted Bridging Culture initiative in response to a widely-perceived community need to enhance resources for Latino students and residents, and to strenghten cross-cultural connections. A grant for $5,000 has been received by the Autzen Foundation to improve the campus library's collection of literature, non-fiction, and bilingual children's books. These resources will complement both campus and public programs by providing an honorarium to Gabriel Thompson, author of Working in the Shadows: A Year of Doing The Jobs Americans Won't Do. Thompson's book will be the centerpiece of the College's Campus Reads program during the 2011-12 academic year. Through personal narrative combined with investigative reporting, Thompson tells the stories of workers, undocumented immigrants and desperate U.S. citizens alike.
